Loving my Host Family

Posted by: SANDDY in ,

Had been rather busy latey. Urgh, what else? Assignmnts and exams... Everyday is like just about studying and it makes me kind of want to laze around and deliberately waste some time for the sake of letting time pass without worrying about the things I need to do. Anyway, I digress. Haha...

Well back to topic, I am greatful that WL and I have such wonderful host families... =)

Last Friday, we had dinner at WL's host family's (Mr. and Mrs. Varnest) place. What a warm dinner.

This week, I went out with Janie, my wonderful host family.

She had an extra ticket for the Woman's Basketball game and so she invited me to watch the gae with her. This time it's IUB vs IUPUI.

We won!!! GO HOOSIERS!!! It was an awesome game.

Janie gave me these presents for Thanksgiving. Aww... so sweet of her. I really appreciate her gift. She also treated me a buffet dinner at Great Wall. It was an awesome dinner.

Really enjoyed each and every outings with my host family. =)

Well, that's all for now. Adueu.

(p/s: really need to work out dy. Haven't really sweat for a long time)

Of Green Eggs and Halloween

Posted by: SANDDY in ,

Hohoho... Time really flies. It's now November and there is only a few weeks before this semester ends. The weather is getting colder and colder and colder and I really appreciate the sun and it's warmth...

Btw, the Daylight Saving Time (DST) for this year has just started and I am using this time wisely to blog. XD Haha...

Back to Green Eggs!!! Yes, GREEN EGGS!!!

Went Farmer's Market on Saturday and decided to buy the green eggs from the Aracuana chicken breed. I have eaten brown eggs for as long as 20 years in Malaysia and since arriving in the US, I have only tried white eggs. Seeing green eggs just makes me want to try it out!!!
(p/s: the green eggs are not obvious but they are easily distinguishable if you really observe carefully. I even labeled it to make life easier. =) )

Bought pumpkins in conjunction of Haloween.

All of us stay off campus and we have trouble finding transport to the Halloween Party on campus. Hence, we decided to celebrate a simple yet fun Halloween together as a family. Nothing beats the fun of celebrating such wonderful event with family right? Hahaha... Wait till next Halloween, we will surely party next year, with scary costumes!!!

Alicia, WL and CK carving pumpking. Bersungguh-sungguh!!!

Our masterpiece. Guess which is whose. Mine is the tallest and of course the fierest pumpkin lor... Halloween mar. WL's is the 2nd most garang one sitting on my pumpkin. Alicia's is the crossed eyed pumkins, while CK's is of course the loved eyes pumpkin. Loving and kind spirit durin Halloween. Haha!!!

WL and I with our respected pumpkins. Haha!!!

Turn off the light and see what happens. Woohoo!!!

Guys just like to play with round items don't they.

WL Birthday @ Brown County State Park, Nashville

Posted by: SANDDY in , ,

Hey all, I have been really busy these past few days. Never ending assignmets and exams... Urgh!!!

Hence, on WL's birthday, the 6 of us (CJ, Liz, Alicia, CK, WL and me) decided to rejuvinate at Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana aka the largest statepark in Indiana and get ourselves closer to nature. We heard from many that Brown County State Park is the ideal place to visit during Fall and decided to have a picnic birthday bash there.

Megan, our friend from IU carpooled us there.

Ok, pictures, pictures...

Dry, "crunchy" leaves...

1st Stop: Hesitation Point. What a name. We hesitatd for awhile and decided to have our picnic at Ogle Lake later on. Look at the panoramic view here. Different trees with different colos. It was just awesom seeing such breathtaking view.

Me hugging a tree.

Sunny day. I apprecate the heat. Very much.

Calvin Klein "spokesperson". Haha... Love this pic.

Alicia.

WL and CJ rolling down the hill. They were just like small kids.

CK and Alicia.

Hiking. Did not plan to hike but eventually did so. For some reasons. Haha...

Lake Orle. OMG!!! Really picturesque.

Me, WL and CK.

CJ and Liz. So loving.

When we took enough pictures, it's time to begin our picnic makan-makan.

Finished eating. It's time to take more pictures. Haha...

Wohoo!!! Nice and relaxing day. I appreciate every moment we spent at Brown County State Park together. It just feels like having a family outing. Fun and enjoyable. And on top of that, it's a "assignment-less" day for us. How I hope I can do all my assignments in the future in such beautiful and peaceful place. If only I have Doraemon's teleport door. Hmm... Haha...

Moon Cake Festival and BWF Picnic

Posted by: SANDDY in ,

Hey hey. Updates updates. I have been really busy with my W131 class lately. Blogging reminds me that writing is actually fun and relaxing, not to mention terapeutic (Though I prefer to let my pictres do most of the talking). Hiak hiak..

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd October 2009 (Saturday) - Moon Cake Festival

So... this year, we celebrate our 1st Mook Cake Festival a.k.a. Mid Autumn Festival in US. There's no lentern here at Bloomington but lukily we had mooncakes. I really miss the ice-skinned moon cakes!!!

(p/s: I suddenly remember that we watched Moonlight Resonance during our Mooncake Festival last year and I was infamously named "Sa Yi" by Stephy who claimed herself as "Yu Sou Chau")

And of course, being as creative as we are, we decided to had a fancy and romantic "candle light dinner for not 2, not 4 but 6" as a family-lah of course.

Pictures, pictures...

OMG, isn't this romantic, with all the candles...

Dinner prepared by CJ, Liz, WL and CK. Our guys can cook. Proud of them. XD Muahahaha!!!

WL and I. Couple no. 1. With mooncakes!!!

Liz and CJ. Couple no. 2.

CK and Alicia. couple no.3 Ops ops ops, I mean FRIENDS. Hahaha!!!

Mooncakes under the candlelights.

WL, me and CK.

And you know what other crazy things we did? We decided to play friesbee at 12.5 degree celsius. Crazy!!!!!

Isn't Liz's friesbee beautiful in the dark? It's a pesent from CJ.

Me catching the friesbee. See the "power" in green light? Legend says that it is the "Spirit of the Wind Miller Drive". Muahahahaha!!!

Too bad we couldn't see the moon that day. Bet it was too cloudy that the moon decided to shy away in the clouds.

4th October 2009 (Sunday) - Bloomington Worldwide Frindship (BWF) Picnic@ Lake Lemon

Janie, my host family and me. Nice scenery of Lake Lemon. Do you know that Lake Lemon was named after a mayor whose sirname is Lemon?

Met lots of international students there. Both of them are graduate students. One of them is even majoring in Biotech!!!

Harriot giving a welcoming speech.

Food- delicious home made food. Mouth watering.

Look at how big my appetite is. Muahahaha!!!

Home made peach and pumpkin cakes. Awesome!!!

Janie and me.

Another nice scenery of Lake Lemon.

Preparing for our boatride on pontoos (the boat behind us). With Yoko and Rie from Japan.

On the pontoon.

Woohoo!!!

Sail boat.

Before we go back, we stop by the DeFord's garden. Look how welcoming this place looked.

Beverly toured us around her garden.

Planting cute plants in shoes. How cute and creative. ^^

Janie and I.

The wall of The Deer Revenge. Lolz...

They told me that this flower is edible with salads. Interesting huh. But since even hibiscus is edible, I am sure that there are more flowers out there that are edible.

Had a great weekend. When you work hard and play hard, you seem to appreciate your free time more.

Adieu. ^^

Apple Picking @ Anderson Orchard

Posted by: SANDDY in ,

Fall is officially here and it rains almost everyday. I regret not bringing an umbrelly from Malaysia because the unbrella here is a lot more expensive than in Malaysia's.

This Sturday, Alicia, CK, WL and I went apple picking at Anderson Orchard, another event organized by BISM. We get to eat as much apples there for FREE!!! Yes, I know, the word "FREE" is very tempting. Mahahahaha!!!

Apple tree!!! 1st time seeing a real apple tree. =)

The orchard was very large, 150 acres of apple trees!!! The apples there include Jonathon apple, Jonagold, Red Delicious, Golde Delicious, Scarle Beauty, Cortland, Gala, Winesap, Early Fuji and Mutsu apples. Different apple taste differently. We love Jonathon apple the most!!! You go Jonathon. XD

Beautiful apple.

Small baby Gala apple with the size of a cherry.

Can make earings from it.

Posing with apples. 6 hands statue. XD

OMG!!! CK's "apples". One rotten and one ripe.

Apple throwing. XP Being childish feels great!!!

WL juggling apples. Clap clap. =)

Met Hope and her family there. She has beautiful kids.

Monkey climbing the tree. XD

WL and I.

With Meor, Amira and Munifah.

Tree picture again.

We picked a packet of apples which costs us $7. Cheap cheap cheap. Our 1 week supply of fruits for our fibre source. Alicia says that she MIGHT try to make apple pie.

After apple picking, we went to the small food court and craft fair.

Indian corn. Should I try one?

Flowers.

Mini pumpkins which reminds me of Haloween. It's on the 30th of Oct. I wonder will we celebrate the festival...

Me surrounded by pumpkins.

WL and I.

WL surrounded by a pool of pumpkins. Love this pic.

We had FREE ice-cream.

Enjoyed our apple picking throughly. ^^

(p/s: btw, we learned some interesting terms. "Butterfly" cooking style is the cooking tyle for pork. So if you do not eat pork, you need to avoid "butterflied food") Interesting huh?

Yard Sales and Malaysian Student Association (MSA)

Posted by: SANDDY in , ,

I've been quite busy lately since class started. Lots of assignments. All of us here feel that we were quite nerds for studying and doing homework almost everyday. Cooking seems to be the only thing we do as "leisure" on weekdays and Saturday is basically our "family day" where we visit places and buy groceries as a "family". Besides, for the past few weeks, we have been combining food with CJ and Liz for dinner every Saturday. =) Sunday will be our stay-at-home-day as we would try to avoid ourselves from going out because there is no bus services available.

Btw, I've met with my host family from Bloomington World Wide Friendship (BWF). It feels great having the opportunity to get to know someone local here and perhaps having the chance to develop good friendship with her. Hope we would be great pals in the future.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12 Sept 2009- Garage Sale
Back to the main topic. WL and I wen on a trip organized by BISM to hunt for garage sales all over Bloomington. It was definitely fun shopping for goods at a much more cheaper price!!! Yeah!!

So much things on sale.

Clothes, furnitures, accessories...

WL and I.

Bought this cap which worth only 0.25 cents.

Group picture.

In case you want to know, I ended up buying a jacket worth $2, a nice bracelet watch worth $5, the 0.25 cents cap, a pair of gloves worth 0.50 cents and a small kettle worth $3. WL ended up buyng a $1 jacket which looked absolutely nice on him and an alarm clock worth $3. Besides, we got Free hangers too!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13th Sept 2009- Dinner with Malaysian Student Association (MSA)

Grateful that we get to meet almost all of the Malaysians in IU and get to taste Malaysian food. Delicious!!!

Cheers. It has been awhile since we last met Meor and Amira.

Look at Hafidz making faces.

Ustaz Wan giving a wecoming speech.

Well, that's all for the updates this week. Having our first exams next week. Wish us luck. =)

First Week of Class

Posted by: SANDDY in ,

Hey hey hi hi, class just started this week. It seems to be the beginning of a busy semester. I'm taking Physics, Statistics, English Composition and Introduction to Design and Production.

Despite my busy schedule, I'll try my best to at least update this blog once a week. *wink* Let's see what happened during this whole week. ^^

We didn't get to go Minessota or Chicago but staying in Bloomington is still very fun. Wanted to explore the whole town as much as we can, and hoefully make as many friends as we can. ^^

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31st August 2009- Picnic by BISM

Attended the picnic by BISM. Free food for dinner. Yeah!!! XD

WL and I. Made some friends while chatting and eating. ^^

Alicia. Nice pic!

Played with some rabbits.

Cute little baby boy looking into the rabbit cage while his sister keeps on feeding the rabbits with grass. Awww...

Rabbit.

Goat.

Another nice pic. The pic will appear nicer if taken from the opposite site though.

Played throwing bags. WL and I vs Alcia and CK. WL and I won!!! Muahaha!!! Look at CK.

WL and I.

The "superman style". No wonder we won. XD

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5th September 2009- Farmer's Market and 4th Street Festival

First stop- The Farmers Market.
Farmers market is like pasar tani in Malaysia. We can find lots of home planted groceries here that are extra fresh and healthy. One big difference about the farmers market here and pasar tani is the floor here clean and dry here compared to pasar tani. Lolz...

Look at the crowds.

Vegetables.

Flowers.

Honey. We could really see bees flying around the honey stall!!! How pure is the honey!!!

The popcorn stall has great business!!! We smelled the nice smell of popcorn as soon as we entered the market and couldn't resist to buy a packet of it.

Delicious and crispy!!!

Cheese.

Hehe...

Some people perform there just like this lady playing the violin.

On our way back...
Music notes painted outside the music shop. Anyone know what song is it?

Posing with a dog. Crazy.

Next stop- The 4th Street Festival
Large crowd, as usual.

There are lots and lots of home made arts here.

Potteries.

Some children busy doing some project.

In a small art house.

More arts and pictures.

Look at how creative the people are. This chicken reminds me of Stephy!!! Miss u!

Had Bunnito and BBQ chicken for lunch at Lauginig Planet.

Bunnito, a type of Mexican food.

Wow!!! Look at what Alicia and CK found and bought from Kroger (similar to Tesco in Malaysia). Starbucks Ice Cream!!! Java Chip Frappucino. Very delicious. Higily recommended. Not available in Malaysia YET.

Shopping for groceries every week seems tiring but at least we learn how to become independent by learning how to compare prices, cook and being responsible for what we are doing. It's such a fun experience!
